THE Coffee MARKET and industry
Two critical events continue to impact our industry globally right now:
Tariffs on coffee imported into the U.S.- Reciprocal tariffs have been paused for 90 days for all countries except China. For most origins, tariffs now sit at 10%, while imports from China remain heavily taxed at 145%. While this pause offers some temporary relief, the situation remains fluid and subject to further changes without notice.
Ongoing volatility in the coffee futures market - Following Friday’s tariff announcement, the C-market recovered slightly and has held steady into Monday. However, it’s important to note: there has been no meaningful improvement in yields from producing countries. Global supply remains tight and continues to lag behind demand.
This combination of uncertainty and price instability is causing widespread hesitation across the supply chain. Businesses are struggling to make informed decisions, unsure whether to buy, sell, or hold, while watching for further policy shifts from the White House and ongoing fluctuations in the futures market.
The lack of clarity is not only disrupting logistics and pricing, it’s stalling the entire system. If this continues, this could accelerate the coffee crisis the industry was already experiencing. This means more business closures and dysfunction in 2025, with the fallout potentially carrying into 2026 and beyond.
